We met with the British model to talk about his latest campaign for Dolce & Gabbana, his modeling career, his body and his future expectations.

Considered one of the most handsome men in the world, David Gandy visits Madrid to present his latest campaign of Dolce & Gabbana's famous fragrance, Light Blue.

Accustomed to androgynous body types, not muscular ones, David has managed to not only carve a niche into the industry, but has also changed the trend on the catwalk. He also writes articles on fashion, loves to decorate and is a good businessman. His advice on how to be the perfect gentleman: " Always think of others."

The latest Dolce & Gabbana campaign is spectacular...

The truth is the finished product has been very good; the idea was a hit and it was a really experience. Yes, for great outdoor results you have to into account the factors and for us the weather was a bit of a problem. The weather became a bit complicated a few times but everything turned out well.

What does Dolce & Gabbana mean to you?

For starters, I would not be here if it weren't for D&G and their Light Blue fragrance. I can't explain it but it means the world to me. We have been working together for seven years straight, and I've known Domenico and Stefano since 2002, we understand each other very well. They are a myth and I'm delighted to be part of this project.

What do you like more the catwalk or posing?

I can't decide, they are two similar things yet very different. The catwalk is very quick and fleeting while on a photo shoot there are more opportunities to embody a role or a character. Your smiles, your gestures....it varies from one photo to another so maybe yes, I'll stay with the campaigns.

Are there any campaigns that have been particularly difficult for you?

The truth is,no. As models we are accustomed to having our picture taken, even though a session can be very long and exhausting. For example, on the D&G ones we sometimes start at 4pm and finish at 8am the next day. The whole team requires a lot, you have to work hard to get the best results.

Later he tells us that he was once on a single shoot for 16 hours, there are those who don't believe him.

You take really good care of your body, what is your exercise routine?

Above all I watch what I eat. I always try and eat fresh and organic foods and not eat fast food. In regard to my physique, you have to work hard, the more you spend time in the gym the better the results. There is no other method than that of consistency and tenacity.

How long ago did you start taking care of your physique?

I was always aware that I had to care of myself, my parents instilled it on me. As I got older and because of professional commitments as a model I couldn't play sports as much as I did as when I was younger; it was in that moment that I took nutrition and exercise more seriously. This would be about ten years ago more or less.

Did you like that changes that came with being a model?

This industry is very chaotic. It changes your life either way, you're constantly traveling, you meet new people every day, you have an agent...I fly more than ninety times a year, every year it's different and every season is different. Me, personally, I don't like routines, so that's why I like my job so much. If I'm doing the dame thing for a few days I go go crazy, some people prefer routines and what it entails, in my case what I love is that I'm in Madrid right now, next week perhaps I'm in New York or maybe London...

What is the worst part?

It how depends on how one sees things. I feel very lucky and I don't see anything negative about it. Yes, it's true that walking down the street people may recognize you but that's all. But thanks to this I've been able to create my own mobil apps, meet amazing people and help people through my foundation. This would not be possible if it weren't for my job.

It been said that thanks to you the there was a change to what was the stereotypical male body, what sets you apart from other models?

First I will tell you that it was not me alone. It was the industry in a whole. Adding to it was Domenico and Stefano, the Light Blue perfume, the incredible photos of Mario Testino...there were many factors. We were all committed to changing the stereotype of the male model and today there is a trend in fashion that balances the skinny men with others of a different body type.

I suppose you have many followers, Can you tell us a funny story or something funny that has happened to you?

The truth is that I have many funny stories. But something that impressed and flattered me was a woman, who is a fan of my work, last year she tattooed my signature on her arm!! Incredible but true!

Finally, where do you see yourself in ten years?

I am unable to answer that. I don't even know where I'll be in six months. We all have a plan, of course, but nothing is certain and that's the beauty of it. Perhaps I'll change my profession, maybe I'll have a family...it is more likely that I will not be in front of the camera, maybe behind it. I really the directing and creativity aspect and I think we have to leave an opening for new models to experience what I have (so that in turn I can experience new things).

We have just been with the British model David Gandy yes, you may not know the name right off the bat, but when you see him you will recognize as the model of the moment.

Charming and with the most captivating smile, the British model David Gandy who has with the most intense blue eyes is in Madrid and we had the privilege to spend a few minutes with him. Considered one of the most handsome men in the world, he blushes when asked about it. "It's an honor for me, in this world there are some who think so and some who do not, in any case I feel the pressure. When someone says that I'm the handsomest man in the world, well it makes me think that the expectation that have of me have to be higher."

Although he never considered pursuing fashion, David enjoys his profession. The hardest part of his job is not being able to spend more time with his family and friends and also not being able to find a woman to share his life with. For now he is single, but he is certain on what it takes to win his heart. "A sense of humor, someone who makes me laugh, someone who like my jokes." "The first thing I notice is the eyes and that she maintains eye contact, I like the game of eye glances." "In this moment I don't know who it may be, but maybe sometime in the future."

Elegant, seductive and with a physique that does not go unnoticed, nor his simplicity or kindness. " I'm quite shy, I like to keep my private life private and without many intrusions, but it is true I don't have much time for it because I work a lot.

His sister and nephews live here in Spain, in Malaga. The camera loves David Gandy for reasons that are very obvious.

In bed with the hottest man in the world

Thandanani Mhlanga cosies up to David Gandy

Only very lucky women can say they’ve been in bed with one of the most gorgeous man on earth, and even more so when it turns out he enjoys a good whisky, detests animal cruelty and knows his way around a kitchen.

I’m one of them, and the man is David Gandy, one of the world’s most successful male models, according to Forbes. He hit the big time, literally, when a 15m billboard version of him wearing nothing but white Dolce & Gabbana briefs towered over New York’s Times Square.

So maybe I’m stretching the truth a little. Maybe I didn’t really share David’s bed. Maybe I was on my bed, and he in a hotel in Milan, where he was promoting the new campaign for the Dolce & Gabbana fragrance Light Blue alongside Italian beauty Bianca Balti. And maybe we were chatting on the phone. But it certainly felt as though he were next to me, thanks to his disarming charm.

The best part: David doesn’t come across ‘model-ish’ at all. In fact, he didn’t even set out to get into the game, and when his housemate secretly entered him into a modelling contest and he won, he thought he’d been pranked. Read on for more about this perfect English gentleman…

What was your childhood like?
I was bullied quite badly at school and didn’t come out of my shell until much later. I didn’t feel like I fitted in. I was quite solitary and independent.

That’s surprising…
Well, yes. Everyone thinks if you’re in the limelight you enjoy it, but I’ve often kept to myself. I think more people should be more solitary. We live in a world where everyone wants attention and I don’t really like being the centre of attention. I do what I have to do for my job but I keep my private life private.

When did you realize that people find you attractive?
I don’t even think people to find me that attractive. I’m still sort of that shy guy who doesn’t think that. Not everyone finds me attractive, just like I don’t find everyone attractive.

But surely you’re of your title as the most handsome man in the world?
It’s a little bit ridiculous, to be honest. Besides, it changes every year. One year it’s George Clooney and the next, Bradley Cooper. You can’t take that short of thing to heart.

How do you deal with the attention?
It’s best not to take it too seriously. Some people know David Gandy, the guy from Essex, and others know David Gandy, the brand. When you’re in the fashion business, people have stereotypical views of you. They think they know you but they really don’t.

What’s a false perception about you?
I think I’m a lot less serious than most people think. I could meet the most beautiful girl in the world, but with no sense of humour, we couldn’t get along.

What angers you?
Cruelty to animals. I’ll never really understand it. Criticism. I don’t mind criticism when it’s justified – but if you do something positive people don’t talk about you, yet as soon as something bad turns up, it’s on Twitter.

Does that make you feel vulnerable?
Everyone’s vulnerable. Everyone’s on Twitter and Facebook saying, “I’m in this restaurant and hotel’ but claiming their privacy is being taken away. They have themselves to blame.

Any guilty pleasure?
I eat a bit of chocolate every day. Organic chocolate. And I’m an English guy – I still love my booze.

What’s your favourite non-alcoholic beverage?
Alcoholic I can talk about, but non-alcoholic? I have a contract with Johnnie Walker; I’m a big whisky drinker. But well, I drink plenty of tea. I also don’t think I could give up coffee. I almost don’t want to say how many cups a day … six or seven.

Is it important that the woman in your life be as health-conscious as you are?
I don’t think I’m health-conscious. I cook a lot. I cook good stuff. It’s important she eats well and enjoys her food, because food is my passion.

If you could have dinner with three people, dead or alive…
Winston Churchill, Paul Newman and JFK

And what would you cook for them?
Goodness. My speciality… I cook a lot of Asian food and I do a good risotto. I think those guys might like a good steak, with red wine, of course. I know Winston wouldn’t have minded a sherry!.

He is one of the most desired male faces in the fashion industry, known for being the face of one of the most prestigious Italian brands, the English model David Gandy visits our country and we take this opportunity to learn what life is like for a supermodel. "I would not be here if it were not for Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue it means the world to me. We've been working together for seven years". Having a perfect body is not easy, there are no miracles or secrets for this model beyond good nutrition and hard work. "I never eat processed foods, I eat fresh and organic foods and I work very hard, I wish there was some trick, or a shortcut that I could reveal to people and tell them you do not need to train a lot,but the harder you train, the better the results ".
A life full of obligations and full of worldwide travel only suitable for the most passionate. "Fashion is a unique industry it changes everything, you travel a lot, you can not have a routine. I do about 80 or 90 flights a year. "

Far from feeling like an ephemeral object, David Gandy has managed to stay within a fleeting industry using fashion at his will. "The industry sometimes uses models, but I'm in a position where I can change and use the industry . I have my team that I always travels with me. I like helping people, young talent, new photographers, hairdressers, stylists ... ".

And when the body, mind and heart all flow in the same direction that is when success is assured.

THE ART OF LOVING

Two number ones, David Gandy and Bianca Balti, explain the game of seduction. Who is the stronger one?

Perfect cocktail high, David and Bianca are the ideal combination, although there are those who would point out there is a repeat of the muscular guy versus fragile girl, because in the fashion industry it is the women who have a position of strength. To succeed as a model, besides having what's on the exterior, you need a chameleon type ability to adapt to the different roles that need to be played. A model needs to become an actor or actress to be able to develop a role. Gandy as much as Balti are chameleons in their right, although the first one can not get away from his role as the tanned, muscular, blue eyed guy with an air of Latin. Blue are also the eye color of the Italian beauty, more Latin than him but less in her physical traits. In reality, their first professional meeting for both is an Italian ground, or better said in the waters off the coast of Capri, for they are both the face of Dolce & Gabbana's latest campaign for their Light Blue fragrance, a brand they have both been working for years.

Milan is not Capri, but it does have the advantage of being the center of Italian fashion. There in one of Dolce & Gabbana's moderate boutiques, we meet exclusively with Bianca and David. "It was an extraordinary experience. It was my first time on the island and I was intrigued," says Bianca. The photographs for this campaign are the work of Mario Testino. The two agree that posing for the famous Peruvian photographer is always an extraordinary experience. "I'm a fan of his work and he is my favorite," Gandy confesses. As for her "he is the funniest person, like a curious child, positive..." At first the weather was no cooperating, the sun wasn't shining, they entailed several trips to and from Capri. But that didn't matter, because of the intimate atmosphere created by Mario.

In this case we are we are confronted with a campaign that tells us a love story, with the Mediterranean as the backdrop. "I really like colognes and I am very loyal to my favorites." Among them is Light Blue, says David whom Bianca describes as "a complete gentleman." And he is, at 33 born in Essex, when he was a little over 20 years old he won a contest that would open the doors to the world of fashion. Appearing on the covers of magazines, this man with an extremely masculine vibe is also known for his love of cars and has been seen posing with actresses like Scarlett Johansson and top models like Naomi Campbell.

David can boast, but he doesn't like to, he has been the subject of a voluminous 300 page book titled David Gandy by Dolce & Gabbana, the brand where he has been the essential face of for over five years. He stands out for his elegance, not only now that we have him in front of us, dressed in a shirt and trousers, excellently made by the most famous Italian pair in the fashion industry, but also in his daily life. So much so that he has appeared as one of the best dressed British men.

Young, but with extensive experience, from his blog for British Vogue, Gandy not only writes about his experiences in the fashion world but about his hobbies. But most noteworthy his charitable acts and his work with Red Nose day but also raising funds for the Comic Relief organization. Even though she is younger, four years younger than him, Bianca has also appeared on various magazine covers, including Vogue Mexico and Latin America. Like her colleague and fellow countryman Mariacarla Boscano, Bianca has also made a foray into film, Go to Tales a film by Abel Ferrara." Bianca has been featured in many of our campaigns, but next to David she brings a tranquil and renewed energy to Light Blue" the duo point out.

She has worked with 40 brands and has a special fondness for this latest one, which, like David, she is loyal to the fragrance: "I return to it because it immediately transports me to Capri." Another duo, like David and Bianca and the designers are the fragrances that they lend their image to. They have their own personalities but compliment each other. The eau de toilette, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is an ode to Sicilian cedar with the freshness of bamboo and the sobriety of white roses, while the pour homme version emphasizes bergamot, Sicilian mandarins and frankincense among other ingredients. Two dreams come true.

Outside of reality one can afford to imagine a thousand and one stories. The mind is free to shape the many thoughts that arise, free to unite with each other, moved as if by magic to a paradise, with company that is seemingly impossible...Dreaming is not only for when we sleep. They can also become reality while we are awake. For example, we are awake while we delve into this article, where the role is captured by a man who we observe at different times on any given day. A handsome man, impeccably dressed, found in a bar, with only the company of his whiskey and a newspaper, with his classic Jaguar E-Type or in the company of his beloved. A muscular gentleman, who is delicate to his woman for whom he feels an homage to, but who somehow has him caught up.

She has her character to play as well, she is loved but she knows she has a control over her vigorous lover. It is the power of feelings, the one of a woman in love confronted by physical power of her lover. As with any dream that is worth something, in ours, there is no room for reason. Behind this impeccable gentleman, there is a woman, his muse, she goes for a ride in his convertible on a sunny day, he is vulnerable to the slightest form of affection from her. She is not a woman who gives her affections freely, she is more the likes of a Joan Collins from Dynasty than a Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. In this case, female sensuality is more on the forefront than male dominance. She sets the pace....and he follows.

A classic and therefore repeated story of a man who protects his woman, it would not be entirely true in our particular or subjective story. It is quite the contrary, she is who protects him from himself the instant she is in front of him (and herself). In his day to day, in the office, at the bar down the street or in his convertible he shows complete self-confidence but as soon as he's with his delicate lady, the roles become reversed. And once again outward appearances seem to fool us again. How many times has that happened upon waking up?! It is rather in dreams, the ones that develop while we sleep where there is no room for deception.

A great lover, and therefore dependent on the love of a woman, was the poet Robert Desnos, who, for the storyteller, had the great habit of transcribing his dreams. He was known to be more vulnerable in the real world. Not that Desnos stands out for his strength, rather it was the other way around "I dreamed of you so much that you have lost your reality" when we read between his lines in To The Mysterious Woman. Because love, like any drug creates dependency, submission, it provokes a sensation when security begins to evaporate, of anguish. All problems stem from the same root, fear that disappears thank to love, but sometimes that love is what causes our fear.

Inviting, attractive but also vulnerable is the new seducer of the twenty first century. That is how we see him through Pfriender's snapshots, revealing fearfulness to us....even though that feeling can throb within him. His attitude in front of his lover can be translated as he does whatever she commands while staying by her side. Like a modern day Eve with control over him, her wishes become a given order in a contemporary reformulation of the rules of medieval chivalry. These snapshots provoke sensations within us, that make us dream while awake. A visual history in which, while embracing his beloved he finds the assurance that she will never leave his side.

But who are the real characters of this story? Nothing more and nothing less than two of the most successful models of the moment, the English David Gandy and the Italian Bianca Balti. Two Europeans that, when it comes to their jobs, have not felt the economic crisis, thanks to the power they give off in front of the camera. Somehow they are able to play any given character but the one thing they can not hide or pretend to have is the beauty of them both. But there is something that goes beyond beauty: it is magnetism and attraction.

Q&A with the fashion industry's favourite male supermodel, David Gandy

The supermodel, 33, on hating hybrid cars, posing in tight trunks and being an animal lover

What did you want to be when you were a little boy?
I didn’t really know but I didn’t aspire to be in fashion. I’m a guy from Essex who went to a comprehensive school in Billericay. I went to university, then a friend entered me into a modelling competition which I won. I thought it would be fun to do for six months, but I got the bit between my teeth and, like anything I do, I wanted to be the best at it.

And now you’re back as the face of Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Pour Homme fragrance…
The response to the first Light Blue ad campaign in 2006 [which featured David in tight white trunks] was pretty unprecedented so I’m loyal to Dolce & Gabbana. It’s an iconic fragrance and has changed the [male modelling] industry.

How so?
When I started out, [male] models were skinny. Dolce & Gabbana cast me as a more muscular man and the other designers followed suit. At the time people hadn’t seen that type of masculine shot and it caught the public’s imagination.

Were you concerned wearing such tight trunks in public?
I was a little worried – not worried, but aware – that it’s a provocative shot. I showed it to my mum and even she said: ‘This campaign is going to be huge’.

People think all male models are like Ben Stiller’s character in the film Zoolander…
I hope I dispel the views people have of male models. It’s a brilliant film but it probably doesn’t show us in our best light.

Can you do Blue Steel [Stiller’s pouty-lipped pose from the film]?
I was fed up with trying to get away from Zoolander so I’ve started a charity called the Blue Steel Appeal [which supported Comic Relief this year with fashion auctions and events].

What was your career plan B?
I’d have loved to have been a vet but I wasn’t intelligent enough. Animals are very close to my
heart so I also support Battersea Dogs & Cats Home – I was their first ambassador.

What is your biggest bugbear?
Hybrid cars. People smugly drive around in them when they could drive a small diesel car that is
cleaner and more fuel efficient.

What would be your motto?
Always persevere and work hard. And when you make it, don’t believe your own hype.

Who are you dating?
My personal life is my personal life. I don’t talk about it. I keep myself to myself. There are two separate entities: David Gandy the brand and the real me – the guy from Essex who still has all his old friends.

Who do you go to for advice?
For financial matters, my father – he’s a brilliant businessman. For personal issues, I talk to my mum – she’s a brilliant listener.

2. Un accesorio
Relojes, tengo unos 12.

3. Sigues alguna rutina
No.

4. Un icono de estilo
La antigua escuela: Steve McQueen, Paul Newman…

5. Un icono femenino
No tengo.

11. Un libro
No leo ficción…

12. ¿Qué estás leyendo actualmente?
‘The Wicked Wit of Winston Churchill’, de Dominique Enright.

13. ¿Qué suena en tu iPod?
Tengo casi 4.000 canciones. Prefiero la vieja escuela.

14. Tu programa de televisión favorito
Me gustan las comedias.

15. Un bar de copas
Ni idea. No he ido a uno en años.

16. Un restaurante
Blue Ribbon, en Nueva York.

17. El mayor regalo que te has dado
Ahora mismo estoy renovando mi casa de Londres.

18. Una técnica de seducción
No tengo (ríe). Me encantaría conocerlas.

19. El momento GQ de tu vida
No ha llegado todavía.

20. Qué necesita un hombre GQ
Mmm… debería saberla, escribo para GQ. Creo que estilo, ser un gentleman…

21. Un hombre GQ
Dylan Jones, el editor de GQ UK, no hay nadie más GQ que él.

Last night, June 6, 2013, marking the beginning of summer, Glamour Magazine held their annual Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London's Berkeley Square Gardens. David Gandy for Dolce and Gabbana

Light Blue, a Mediterranean love story

Dolce and Gabanna celebrates the return of Light Blue with a new chapter of their Mediterranean love story. This time, the love story stars Bianca Balti as the classic Mediterranean beauty, who takes the lead in this game of seduction in Capri, under the direction of Mario Testino. We sneaked into the making of and we took advantage of his visit to Spain to question the spectacular hero of this story.

Why is D&G Light Blue really special?
Light Blue is special to me, because if it were not for the fragrance I would not be here. The fragrance has achieved an iconic scent, since it is the third we film.

What scent on a woman  attracts you the most?
The fragrance that attracts me in a woman is floral and fruity but fresh, something that reminds me of the Mediterranean and Light Blue.

What should her personality be like?
A sense of humor is important to me in a woman, It doesn't matter how beautiful she is, if she has no sense of humor she does not seem attractive to me.

What scent brings back memories for you?
The smell that takes me back to my childhood is the scent of freshly cut grass in the summer or spring.

What are your favorite flowers? For you or as a gift.
I love certain flowers and plants. They show a happy feeling, especially Cissus, perhaps because of my Scottish roots. I think everyone loves to receive a large bouquet of flowers.

What is "having style" for you?
I think style is many things to many people. For me, the first thing I think of is a suit. Style has a lot to do with confidence. You can wear something that borders on style, but if you wear with confidence, you can be stylish.

Is there anyplace you'd like to escape to this summer?
I don't take holiday's often, so I often go to Africa, it's not a vacation-vacation, but I like to get lost in the middle of nowhere, where my phone doesn't work.

On Wednesday May 5, 2013, David Gandy attended the Graduate Fashion Week's Gala Awards Show at Earls Court 2 in London. As model and Menswear fashion committee member David Gandy presented the Menswear Award to Shauni Douglas & Accessories & designer Olivia Creber of Edinburgh University for their collaboration in a collection that had depth in its use of techniques and themes.

Which collection particular stood out to you today?

There was a guy whose work (Adnan Ebo) had a traditional feel; a very tailored theme to the collection with Napoleonic prints. It was an interesting take on the military theme, so he stood out for me.

It is different when you actually get to meet them as well, it’s the explanations and the concepts that take the clothing to a whole different stratosphere; when someone has followed that concept through from start to finish. So it’s very important to meet them, in some cases it was make or break.

Why do you think Graduate Fashion Week is so important?

For Britain, I am an advocate for everything British, and I’m also a Menswear committee member. I think finally we have a platform, talking not just for menswear designers, we now have somewhere to shout about it, to show everything we can do in the UK and I think we do it very well. I think we’re the best in the world at it. This is the future; this is where it is all going to come from. For all of the graduate designers, this is the first step so it is hugely important.

Finally, do you have any advice for current and future graduates?

No I don’t, I mean we have chosen one winner here, we narrowed it down to four or five and chose from there, so all I advise is perseverance, perseverance, so keep on going. If there is a dream that you have and you know that you’re good enough then you should just keep going.

David Gandy covers this weeks The Standard, photographed by Hamish Brown in London. His first contribution for this magazine came in 2011 as a guest editor for their "Men's Special Issue". This time around David pens this wonderful article for the The Standard. He gives us a brief look into his first love, cars that is, and how to look good driving them.

How To Drive

The Ride of your Life
The male model and petrolhead on the joys of going roofless

You’d think it was impossible not to look cool in a soft-top, but having just spent three days with Yasmin Le Bon in an open-top 1950 Jaguar XK 150 completing the famous Mille Miglia rally around Italy, I felt more Mario Kart than James Dean. I lost two pairs of glasses, three caps, my voice, and I still have tiny little stones embedded in my face from the, ahem, “small” crash we had (we came off briefly after another car gave us a nudge). Thankfully, we patched up the car and carried on.

Back in London I’ve been filming an advert for Jaguar. At 3am I was zooming around London in the new F-Type. As we hit Parliament Square. I looked directly above me at the wonderful sight of Big Ben. The brisk, cold air hit my face, while the heated steering wheel, seat and vents kept me nice and toasty; the deep V8-engine rumble reverberated off the buildings like I’d never heard before. I’m smitten and have decided to invest in my own F-Type. After all, the British virtually invented the idea of open-top motoring and I think it’s about time that I carried on this tradition.

GROOMING ADVICE

Given the climate, it’s strange that the British have always been such enthusiastic purchasers of soft-tops – even more so than the Italians and Spanish. It’s probably because British weather is so awful that we feel the need to take advantage of the few rays we do have at any opportunity. We then turn up at our destination with a lovely tan below the elbow and, more often than not, a rather sunburned nose. Not to mention flyaway hair that Boris Johnson would be proud of. Even with modern wind deflectors, one’s barnet takes such a beating that no amount of gel or industrial-strength wax will help. Embrace it: the thrill of the ride is always worth looking a bit rough round the edges.

WHAT TO WEAR

Cruising in your soft-top is an opportunity for some old-school masculine elegance. Channel Steve McQueen in a Belstaff jacket. There’s simply no need to wear driving gloves when the steering wheel is already heated, and a flat cap will blow straight off your head. The most essential accessory is a beautiful woman in a glamorous headscarf by your side.

WHAT TO PLAY

If you’ve ever tried to listen to music in an open-top car at anything over 50mph, you’ll know it’s impossible – as are conversations with passengers (although this might appeal to some). The good thing about a hard-top car is that it allows seclusion from the rest of the world. In my Jaguar XKR-S, I can sit quite happily listening to Magic FM, talking to myself, wearing odd shoes and no one has to know. It’s brilliant. But in my new roofless Jag I’ll just have to accept that the world does not need to hear me singing along to Barbra Streisand’s greatest hits – especially not with the big hair, sunburn and mismatched footwear.

WHAT TO DRIVE

* A Jaguar F-type V6S is what Jaguar does best — classic glamour
* The chicest cabriolet is a 1960 Mercedes 280 SL
* The most fun you’ll have with your pants on is in a Caterham Supersport
* Driving a soft-top doesn’t get any better than a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé— pure elegance
* A Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupé brings affordable open-top motoring to the masses

WHERE TO DRIVE

* The Pacific coast Highway that follows the rugged, sensual Californian coastline, with Big Sur, Carmel and Pebble Beach along the way
* The beauty of the Tuscan Hills makes for a relaxed soft-top ride Italian-style
* Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany is a 20km race road. There’s no speed limit so it’s where car manufacturers go to test their latest models
* The Stelvio Pass is 9,000ft up in the Italian Alps; the 48 corners in 15 miles make it a great drive
* London’s Embankment late at night

The opening was marked by a fashion show of  the brands S/S 2014 collection, showcasing Sicilian tailoring. The store will in every way be a traditional tailoring boutique, where tailors will be on hand to measure suits and blazers and where men can be pampered in a traditional style barber shop.
